Pimp My Village Stories - Gideon Biemso 1 - Hospital 1

In 2009 the Nana Afua Kobi Hospital in Biemso 1, a small village in Ghana, opened its doors. It was Dr. Kwakye´s dream to build a hospital near his hometown in Ghana. He named it after his late mother.

Dr. Kwakye came from Biemso nr. 1. He lost his father and mother at a young age and especially the death of his mother came as a shock to him. She had a pneumonia but there was no ambulance to bring her to the hospital. He was at the house with his younger sister when his mother died.

From that moment he decided he wanted to become a doctor so he could help his village and other people not to die unnecessary and wanted to save life’s.

Dr. Kwakye did very good in school and got a scholarship to go to study medicine in Europe. Then he ended up working as a heart surgeon in Belgium and Germany. He wanted to support the village of Biemso nr. 1 and decided to do some small development projects. He dug a wells for water, renovated schools and provided scholarships.

The hospital has been up and running for a long time now but the last decade was not easy because there where other hospitals that started competing. Even though the hospital is still there and got a great managing director called Gideon it needs a real upgrade.

Unfortunately Dr. Kwakye passed away on november 4th 2023. The staff was sad but even more motivated to get the hospital back on track.

Gideon: " Dr. Kwakye has done so much for the village and we are all happy that the hospital is here. I want to do everything to keep up his legacy. He was a very special person."

We will be following up on Gideon and his efforts to get the hospital back on track.
