Pimp My Village Stories
This week I will be sharing the story of a new Ambassador: Nadia Maalim of the Stichting SOMI platform.
SOMI was founded in 2020 by a group of young Somali-Dutch leaders in Eindhoven. The main focus has been on physical and online events and of course the involvement of the “SOMI Voices,” they bring empowerment, inspiration, and support to the Somali community in the Netherlands and support Stichting SoMi in the growth of the organisation.
Nadia: “I think SoMi is more than just a platform; it’s a community forged by the dreams, aspirations, and determination of Somali Diaspora. Our journey began with a shared vision to create a space where we could inspire, motivate, and support one another, embracing both our Somali heritage and our aspirations for the future.”
Nadia: "This year, we have been focusing on growing the organization and continuing to make it sustainable. By working on different projects such as the podcast, Project Wadanka(a new venture to bridge the gap between the diaspora and our homeland), and various events, we aim to be a broad organization that can engage with the community in diverse ways and offer support.
This summer SoMi hosted a cultural event showcasing how culture can bring us together as a community. They are also planning a new event around October, focusing on entrepreneurship and AI, where opportunities for networking will be provided.
