PMV Stories- Nellie 2- Ghana

This week I will be sharing Nellie´s  To Be Worldwide Foundation update.

To remind you..Nellie Ekua Kirschner-Timmer was born in Ghana and half Ghanaian and Dutch. In 2002, Nellie founded the To Be Worldwide Foundation to support the education of Ghanian children. In 2004, Nellie and her Ghanaian mother set up the first To Be Worldwide Educational Resource Center in Takoradi-Ghana. The center includes a children's library and facilities for computer training, as well as an extensive activity program tailored to local needs. Everything focused on the children's eagerness to learn; with the aim of inspiring and stimulating. A second To Be Center was opened in Cape Coast in 2010.

Nellie went to Ghana in February 24 to visit her To Be Worldwide Educational center in Takoradi.

Nellie” During my visit we introduced our Empowerment backpack. This is part of our community outreach program. Our team member Parker goes off to different communities and introduces the backpack to the children and parents. The backpack is full of educational materials that we also use in our Educational Center. The goal is to show children that learning can be fun! And we also want to reach out to children in this way so they know they are welcome to come to our center and get an idea of what we do.”

“The first outreach has been a success and many children enjoyed working with the educational material. We will continue to visit communities and are thinking of raising some funds so we will be able to provide a community with a backpack and train a community member to use it with the children.”
